We begin our day by picking you up at 7 am at your hotel, and driving to the town of San Bartolo Coyotepec for breakfast (30 minute drive). After breakfast we will drive for another half hour to the mezcal and agave farm of Don Pablo Arellanes in the town of Santa Catarina Minas, the birthplace of ancestral mezcal. Don Pablo will take us to his agave plantations, where we will see and learn about the different types of agaves that grow in this region. We will spend about 1 hour learning about the different varieties and then we will drive back to his mezcal distillery and have tastings of his mezcal. We will then do the second visit to the farm of mezcal La Locura, where you will learn step by step the ancient technique of making mezcal in clay pots. The mezcal in this region is ancestral. So it is very unique! You will have about 20 different samples of tastings of the different varieties of mezcal. We usually return to the city by 5 pm.
